How to begin with learning origami?

 Origami is the skill of folding paper and converting it into various beautiful shapes. The origins of origami are associated with the Japanese culture. When you’re trying learning origami, you’re only restricted to your imagination.

Origami has different styles and techniques. The various styles include Modular origami, action origami, wet folding origami, kirigami, origamI tessellations, and golden venture.

However, scissors, glue, tape, etc. are not used generally in traditional origami. Cutting of paper, and using different papers are not permitted in it.

However nowadays in modular origami and different styles of origami, we can use different papers and even use cutting. Origami isn’t only an intriguing thing to do but it can also be salutary for our health.


It helps in building hand-eye coordination, increases concentration, and also plays important role in mental satisfaction.
Doing origami also improves our motor skills and expands our imagination.

When you are beginning with the art of origami from scratch then it is best advised to learn it from someone else. You can search for any of your friend, sibling, parent, teacher or any other elder to help you. When someone guides you, your work becomes easier than before.

Make the best use of Internet.

You can also take help from various reliable resources such as You tube, Browser and Google. Always make optimum use of your internet connection. And judiciously take help from all such kind of sources. They provide lot of videos, images and guidelines on starting with origami. A bulk of tutorials is present on the web. These are all free resources to help you.

Have a lot of patience.

Origami is about folding sheets of delicate papers and carving out beautiful designs out of them. As papers are really very fragile it is possible that when you start then many times the paper may get damaged. Even those people who are experts too face the same problem with paper. So it is very important for you to be patient with the paper.

Check out some good books.

There are plenty of good books and manuals about learning origami from the very basics of it. You can read them and follow them step by step to get good results. The level of books range from beginner level to moderate level to expert level. You can pick yours and keep on updating the same when you increase your pace of learning.

Start with the easy modals.

When you are just starting then it is considered better to avoid complicating the process and stay connected with the simple things. You should go for the simple modals first and keep practising with them only until and unless you get a hold on them. Later on, you can switch to the tougher modals too. Below are two examples of simple modals of origami to start in detail-

Envelope

Step 1 – Take a piece of square paper or take any paper any cut it into the shape of a square.

Step 2 – Position your distance of sheet like a diamond and also fold the nethermost half of it to its top to make a triangular shape.

Step 3 – Fold the top corner of the triangle to the bottom edge.

Step 4 – Now fold inside one third of the right side of the triangle.

Step 5 – Next fold inside the left side of the triangle.

Step 6 – Now fold that flap’s corner back out to the edge.

Step 7 – In the next step, open the little flap and squash it to form a diamond pocket.

Step 8 – Fold down the top side.

Step 9 – Next, tuck the tip into the diamond shaped pocket.

Step 10 – Now stuff your note in the envelope and close it.

Step 1: Now use a square piece of origami paper with white side up. 

Step 2 : Fold the upper left corner to the lower right corner, then unfold.

Step 3: Slowly flunk and fold the upper right corner to the lower left corner, then unfold.

Step 4: Next, fold the leading top half backwards, then unfold.

Step 5: Now poke the center of the paper to make it pop inwards.

Step 6: Bring the left and right creases to the center and the paper should collapse into a triangle.

Step 7: Fold the left and right corners to the top corner.

Step 8: Turn the figure over.


Step 9: Repeat step 7 on this side. Fold the side corners to the top corner.


Step 10: Now fold just the top layer of the right sect over to the left.

Step 11: Turn the figure over.


Step 12: Formerly again, fold just the top layer of the right side over to the left.

Step 13: Now use just the top layers, insert the right flap all the way into the left flap.

Step 14: Repeat the step 13, insert the right flap all the way into the left flap, then flatten.

Step 15: Pick up the tulip from the bottom as seen in the picture and spread the flaps apart.

Step 16: Blow into the bottom of the tulip and it should puff up.

Step 17: Peel the petals down, but be careful not to loosen the flaps that you tucked earlier.


Step 19: Take another sheet of paper and simply roll it into the shape of a cylinder.

Step 18: Attach this stem and your tulip flower is ready !

Get good knowledge of papers used in origami.

Before you begin with doing origami art, you should have a good knowledge of what types of papers should be used in the art.

Generally a squared paper is used for making different figures of origami because of its ability to form any kind of intricate folds. However, there are many others models which use different papers too. Hence, gain enough knowledge of the general types of papers used for origami.

Practice until perfect.

Everyone can start with learning origami but not everyone can end it with perfection.

Always ensure that whatever origami project you pick, you keep on practising it until perfection is achieved. Never ever leave any project in the middle. Don’t just go with the believe that whenever you feel that you have learnt to make any project to some average level. You should always crave for perfection in your skills.
