History of Books
Chronologically, a book was not actually a book in ancient times. The content was written on rocks, precious stones or on leaves. Later, when some developments took place, paper production started. The paper made was of a cheap quality as it was made through mulberry, fibers and other waste materials. It was treated as heaven in disguise. But then came an important development in the history of books. The mechanization of paper manufacturing was invented. People in 11th century developed the paper mill factory. This helped in producing huge amounts of paper for writing and producing books. As these were producing massive amounts of paper for use, the traditional method of producing paper through extensive work through handicraft method was replaced. But these books were produced like rolls which are known as codex. Later, by the medieval period when these paper mill factories came into play, the books were no more produced like rolls but they were produced like collection of sheets. Now let us know a small brief history of how reading came into play. It is believed that in 4th Millennium BCE, people started to draw visual representations to communicate.
